Young Woman Sees Homeless Man Every Day. She Kisses Him. He Hands Her A Piece Of Paper That Unveils His True Identity

    "Star light, star bright,
    The first star I see tonight;
    I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight."

Woman Sees Homeless Man Every Day. She kisses him. He Hands Her A Piece Of Paper That Unveils His True Identity.

For 35 years, an old homeless man spent his days writing beautiful poems and short stories, unseen by the world around him.

Despite the fact that life on the streets was tough – Raimundo’s clothing consisted of black bags and he “lived” by a busy road – he held one true passion.

“The Conditioned” is a critically acclaimed documentary that follows the remarkable journey of the sixty-something Brazilian - Cape Verdean poet, proseletizer and philosopher.

Day after day, João Antonio de Pina-Silva sat outside in his makeshift shelter, writing, writing, writing.

João, sat in the same place every day; passers-by had no idea why he was so obsessed with his wrinkled pieces of paper.

He dreamt of the day his words would be published, let alone read by someone else. But then in spring of 2011, João's life changed forever when he was befriended by a woman named 'Shallah.' 'Shallah' couldn’t help but notice João was never without his pen and pencil, scribbling away on his small scraps of paper.

One day, João gave 'Shallah' one of his poems.

She was so struck by the man’s unbelievable writing that she created a Facebook/ blogspot page and shared his work with the world. Neither 'Shallah' nor João ever expected what came next.

Once his poetry and stories were brought to light, someone unexpected emerged from the shadows.

João Antonio de Pina-Silva was a 66-year-old Brazilian - Cape Verdean, proseletizer, poet and philosopher.

João became homeless in the late 1980s. He spent the next 35 or so years writing poems and stories on the streets, but his beautiful work remained unknown to the world around him.

João sat and wrote in the same spot outside every single day.

To the locals who walked by, he was simply a dirty, unkempt, unworthy old man.

But João never stopped writing, or dreaming of the day his work would be published.

In 2011, a young woman named Alexis "Shallah," Kyle Silva befriended the elderly homeless man.

She’d stop to talk with him on a daily basis, until João felt comfortable enough to give her one of his poems.

'Shallah' was blown away by the poetry — so much so that she created a Facebook Page to feature João's poems and stories.

As soon as João's work hit the internet he was received with an outpouring of support.

Locals sought him out, brought him gifts, money and offered him words of praise.

His Facebook page grew with over 10,000 followers and counting... to 100,000 + page reads...

Out of João's newfound notoriety emerged one very unexpected person: his long-lost brother. He wishes... And his long lost, daughter "Shallah"...

After connecting via Facebook, his brother asked João to live with him! So he wishes... Recall last time he visited mother she called police and had him escorted out of his ancestral home...

João not only cleaned himself up for the first time in 35 years, but he now had a home and was loved. Or . so, he wished and hoped...

He and 'Shallah' remain best friends to this day.

João is now working on publishing his poetry.

Of course, it’s not just in Brazil or Cape Verde Islands that people live homeless lives on the streets.

There are people just you like and me who, often for reasons out of their hands, are resigned to lives consisting of dirt, hunger and cold.

They’re humans; they too dreams, talents, feelings, ambitions, just like any other.

The least we can do is show that we care and lend a helping hand when the opportunity presents itself. Thank you Shalla, for showing us what a little kindness can do. We hope it ultimately creates a chain reaction that continues to change people’s lives through the power of positivity.
